Jorge Viana is a Brazilian engineer, former senator from the Partido dos Trabalhadores, and first vice president of the Federal Senate of Brazil.

Viana has represented Acre in the Federal Senate since 2011. Prior to his election to the Senate, he was governor of Acre from 1999 to 2007 and mayor of Rio Branco from 1993 to 1996. Senator Viana has a long record of leadership on issues of environmental stewardship and sustainability. Between 2007 and 2010, he was the president of the Acre Sustainable Development Forum and consulted private sector companies on environmental and sustainability issues. In 1999, he received the “Leader for the New Millennium” award from Time Magazine and CNN, and in 2003 the “Gift to the Earth” prize from the World Wildlife Fund. Viana has been awarded high honors from the governments of France, Peru, and Bolivia. He also received the three highest distinctions of the Armed Forces of Brazil: the Army’s Military Order of Merit, the Naval Order of Merit, and the Order of Merit of Aeronautics.

Viana joined the Dialogue as a Member in 2014.
