Jorge Rivera Staff is a leader in sustainable development policies and projects in environments of high complexity and uncertainty, focusing on a clean and just energy transition.
Rivera served as the former Panamanian national secretary of energy and minister of trade and industries.
He is also a member of the global commission for the people-centered energy transition created by the International Energy Agency. He previously served as one of the global champions in the 2021 UN high-level dialogue for energy. Rivera was a key promoter and creator of the International Clean Energy Day adopted by the UN in 2023.
Rivera has been a lawyer for more than 20 years advising governments, private companies, NGOs, and international agencies on sustainable energy policies, projects, and negotiations. He holds a LLM and PhD in energy law and has been a university professor for more than 15 years.
