John Feeley

United States | Executive Director, Center for Media Integrity of the Americas (CMIA)

John Feeley is executive director of the Center for Media Integrity of the Americas (CMIA) and a former career U.S. ambassador dedicated to promoting greater mutual understanding between the United States and Latin America and the Caribbean. CMIA is a nonprofit foundation that promotes high-quality journalism and freedom of expression throughout the Western Hemisphere.

A skilled negotiator, organizational leader, and cross-cultural communicator, Ambassador Feeley collaborates with private-sector, media, and nonprofit partners seeking to understand and address challenges at the intersection of government, business, media, and culture. His military and diplomatic experience provides deep insight into U.S. security and rule-of-law policy implementation, the resolution of commercial disputes, and issues related to human rights, media, and democracy.

During his twenty-eight-year career with the U.S. Department of State, Ambassador Feeley served as U.S. ambassador to Panama; deputy chief of mission and chargé d’affaires in Mexico City; and principal deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. As deputy executive secretary, he worked on the staffs of Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, in addition to holding multiple assignments in Washington and at U.S. embassies throughout Latin America.

Ambassador Feeley is a political consultant for Spanish-language media outlet Univision and frequently appears in both Spanish- and English-language media as a strong advocate for a respectful, alliance-based approach to U.S. relations with Latin American governments and societies. He serves on the board of directors of Envoy Global and works with ANDE Rapid DNA, an emerging technology firm focused on expedited DNA testing for law enforcement, forensic, and humanitarian applications. He is also a member of the board of advisers of the Stimson Center’s Latin America Program and the World Federation of Youth Clubs.

Prior to his Foreign Service career, Ambassador Feeley served as a United States Marine Corps officer and helicopter pilot. He is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a distinguished graduate of the National War College.
