Joaquín Rojas is a leader of the Centro América Indigenous community, located in Puerto Libertador, south of Córdoba, Colombia. He served as governor of the community for 20 years. In addition, he is one of the founders of Pisadas Zenú, a local community enterprise that provides services related to reforestation and environmental compensation in Cerro Matoso. Rojas manages activities such as native tree acquisition from communal nurseries, planting and maintenance, and creation of job opportunities for other local communities. Pisadas Zenú was born out of the prior consultation agreements between the local communities and Cerro Matoso mining company.
In addition, Rojas has promoted the recovery of Indigenous traditions and the preservation of their cultural heritage. Led by Rojas and other community leaders, more than 50 people have participated in their organizational and cultural strengthening program. Through this program, participants have learned about the Zenú Indigenous culture: its origins, evolution, history, worldview, forms of organization, structures of leadership, housing, food, and language.
Rojas was an event speaker at the Dialogue.
