Gabriela Elizondo-Azuela manages the energy infrastructure unit for Latin America and the Caribbean at the World Bank. In her role, she oversees a large portfolio and pipeline of energy sector operations and leads a team that provides strategic advice to clients in the region.
Elizondo-Azuela, a Mexican national, joined the bank in 2003. Prior to assuming her current position, she managed the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) and energy climate finance activities at the World Bank, overseeing a multimillion global portfolio of analytical, advisory, and financing activities in the energy sector.
Elizondo-Azuela has more than 25 years of professional experience in the climate change and energy fields, with specializations in power sector reform, electricity market design, energy transition, clean energy, and private sector development. Before joining the bank, she worked for private consulting firms and academia.
Elizondo-Azuela is a graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico in chemical engineering, holds a master’s degree in environmental and water resources engineering from the University of Michigan (USA), a PhD in energy economics from Imperial College London (UK), and various postgraduate diplomas from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA).
