Francisco Durand is a professor emeritus of The University of Texas at San Antonio and professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru where he is a research associate with the university’s Centre for the Study and Promotion of Development (DESCO).
A recognized specialist in the analysis of business-related issues and their relationship with the state, both in Peru and the broader region, Durand has consulted for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT). He has authored several articles in international journals and thirteen books, including Peru: Elite Power and Political Capture and The Twelve Apostles of the Peruvian Economy, both published in 2017.
He holds a PhD from University of California, Berkeley as well as graduate and undergraduate degrees in sociology from the Catholic University of Peru.
Durand is a frequent commentator for the Latin America Advisor.
