Duncan Wood

U.K | Advisory Council Member, Mexico Program at the Inter-American Dialogue

Duncan Wood is a member of the advisory council at the Mexico Program at the Inter-American Dialogue and the former vice president for strategy and new initiatives at the Wilson Center, where he focused on supply chain policy, critical minerals, electric vehicles, and the geopolitics of the energy transition. From 2013 to 2020, he served as director of the Wilson Center’s Mexico Institute and later as a senior advisor. He is an internationally recognized expert on Mexican politics, U.S.-Mexico relations, and the global dynamics of critical mineral supply chains.

Wood frequently provides testimony before the U.S. Congress and other legislative bodies and is widely cited in both national and international media. He has authored or edited 12 books and over 30 chapters and articles on topics ranging from transparency and anti-corruption to global energy policy. He currently serves on the boards of Transparency International, Signos Vitales, and Foreign Affairs Latinoamérica, and is an editorial advisor to El Universal newspaper.

Over the past decade, Wood has co-chaired the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Transparency and Anti-Corruption and has worked closely with the Forum on energy-related policy. From 1996 to 2012, he was a professor and director of the international relations program at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City. Throughout his 30-year career, he has been a Fulbright Fellow and a fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). He has served as editorial advisor to Reforma, technical secretary of the Red Mexicana de Energía, and as a consultant with McLarty Associates, the Economist Intelligence Unit, Horizon, and Eurasia Group.

Wood earned his doctorate in political studies from Queen’s University in Canada. He studied in both the United Kingdom and Canada and is a lifelong supporter of Liverpool Football Club.
