Carlos Góes is an economist at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and a professorial lecturer in the Department of Economics at George Washington University. He is also a partner scholar at the Globalization and Prosperity Lab at the University of California, San Diego.
Previously, he served as senior economic advisor at the Office of the President of Brazil and worked as a researcher at the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and US-based think tanks. His work has been featured in international outlets including The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, El País, and Le Monde, and he has written op-eds for all major newspapers in Brazil. He received the WTO Award for Young Economists in 2024. Góes holds a PhD from UC San Diego, an MA from Johns Hopkins SAIS, and a BA from the University of Brasília.
