Carlos Basombrío is a Peruvian sociologist, journalist, and former minister of the interior. Basombrío served as minister from 2016 to 2017 under Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and held several other positions in the ministry from 2001 to 2004 under Alejandro Toledo. Basombrío has authored books and essays on human rights, citizen security and other topics, and he previously wrote a recurring column for the newspaper Perú 21. He has been a member and director of the Peruvian NGO Instituto de Defensa Legal, and was a fellow at the Wilson Center from 1994 to 1995.
