Armando Vargas is the security program coordinator at México Evalúa. He is a specialist in sociopolitical approaches to security, the differential distribution of crime, dimensions of violence, criminal regimes, and comparative methods, with over a decade of professional experience in the public, private, and social sectors.
Before leading the public security program at México Evalúa, he oversaw multiple processes of diagnosis, design, implementation, and evaluation of public policies, programs, and projects aimed at violence reduction. He carried out this work at the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, the Carlos Slim Foundation, and Integralia Consultores, where he developed a risk map on organized crime intervention in local electoral processes.
He is currently also a political science professor at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at UNAM and an opinion columnist for Expansión Política. He has participated in numerous national and international media outlets, including radio, television, and print, with appearances in El Universal, El Economista, El Financiero TV, CNN, and The Wall Street Journal.
He is the author of a book, as well as book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles, and analytical pieces in publications such as Nexos. He is a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SNI) under CONAHCYT.
