Angélica Ruiz Celis

Senior Vice President, Latin America and Head of Country, Mexico, BP

Angélica Ruiz Celis has more than 18 years of experience in the energy sector. In 2018 she was appointed Head of Country for BP Mexico, a position which she holds in tandem with her current role as BP’s Senior Vice President for Latin America. 

Ruiz has vast experience developing upstream, midstream, and renewable energy projects in different Latin American countries, as well as the United States, Australia, and Nigeria. Prior to joining BP, she was Vice President for Latin America and Managing Director at Danish power company Vestas. Before her time at Vestas, she served as Finance Director and Commercial Strategies Director at UK-based Petrofac. 

Ruiz started her oil and gas career at Mexicana de Servicios Subacuaticos (MEXSSUB), an offshore pipeline repair company, as Strategy and Planning Manager. She later took over as General Manager, developing new services and providing tailor-made solutions for the offshore upstream market.

Ruiz is an active board member of several organizations in Mexico. She is currently president of the Mexico Chapter of the World Energy Council. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Mexican Association of Hydrocarbon Companies (Amexhi), the Executive Council of Global Companies (CEEG), and the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico. In addition, she is the Coordinator of the Mentoring and Gender Development Group at Mexico’s Business Coordinating Council (CCE). Finally, she participates in Voz Experta, a non-profit association of women leaders in the Mexican energy sector.

Ruiz holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and a MBA from Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresas (IPADE). She pursued advanced studies at both the London Business School and the University of Texas at Austin.
