Andrés Manuel López Obrador

  • Mexico

Andrés Manuel López Obrador is the president-elect of Mexico, and will be inaugurated in December 2018.

Commonly referred to by his initials, AMLO campaigned with a big tent coalition, promising to reduce inequality, poverty, and corruption, expand opportunity and social stability, and bring a fresh approach toward the historically high levels of crime and violence. He began his political career as a member of the PRI, before switching to the PRD and leading Mexico City as its Head of Government from 2000-2005. After two failed campaigns for presidency, AMLO founded the MORENA political party in 2017 and led the party to the presidency and a majority in both houses of Congress.

López Obrador was an event speaker at the Dialogue.
