Alma Caballero is managing director at McLarty Associates and a member of the firm’s Northern Latin America practice, where she leads the Mexico team. She advises clients on strategic planning, government relations, and transaction management across Latin America, particularly in Mexico and Central America.
Prior to joining McLarty Associates, Caballero served as Latin American policy advisor at Covington & Burling LLP, where she provided strategic counsel and risk assessment to international clients with operations in Latin America and to Latin American companies expanding globally. She previously worked at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, Mitsubishi Corporation (Americas), and the Brookings Institution, where she contributed to publications including The End of Nostalgia: Mexico Confronts the Challenges of Global Competition.
Caballero holds a BS in science, technology, and international affairs and an MA in Latin American studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (SFS), where she serves on the SFS Board of Advisors. She also earned an executive MBA from Columbia University.
She is a board member of the US-Mexico Foundation, senior advisor to the Georgetown Americas Institute, and vice chair of the board of directors for love.fútbol. Caballero is an Aspen Security Rising Leader and a David Rockefeller Fellow of the Trilateral Commission. She holds dual citizenship in Mexico and the United States.
