Agustín Porres is the regional director for Latin America at the Varkey Foundation, an organization dedicated to celebrating and empowering the teaching profession worldwide. In the past, Porres worked at the Ministry of Education of the City of Buenos Aires and at the National Social Security Administration. Porres also led the education policy sector of Fundación Contemporánea and was executive director of FormarHub in the United States. Porres is also a founding member of the Latin American Coalition for Teaching Excellence, a group that brings together experts from the region to design reforms to the teaching career.
Porres writes frequently for the main media in Argentina and Latin America and has recently published Tareas Pendientes, a book of interviews with 31 former ministers of education from around the world. Porres is an annual juror for organizations that work to recognize teachers in the region.
Porres is on the board of the Forgiveness Forum, an initiative of the Templeton World Charity Foundation. He is also a visiting professor at Universidad Austral. Additionally, he is a member of the alumni board of the McCourt School at Georgetown University.
Porres studied philosophy at the Universidad Católica Argentina, where he also completed a postgraduate degree in politics, government, and administration. Porres holds a master’s degree in public policy from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University.
Porres is an ambassador of connectivity for educational purposes at the Dialogue.
