ONLINE EVENT: Consolidation of Power and State Capture in Nicaragua
This post is also available in: Spanish
The Nicaraguan political situation has reached a complete concentration of power where the criminalization of democracy, international isolation, and state capture are pillars of political control of the country’s government. Meanwhile, the government is supported by remittance income, extortion, and debt with international financial institutions, particularly the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).
The Inter-American Dialogue, the Asociación de Investigación y Estudios Sociales (ASIES), and the Movimiento Cívico Nacional are pleased to invite you to the presentation of two reports: one on the risk associated with increased radicalization and a dynastic succession within the Nicaraguan government, and another on the government’s concentration of power and state capture. The reports are products of the Working Group on Politics and Mediation in Nicaragua formed by the Inter-American Dialogue in July 2018.
Join us on April 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM EDT (09:00 Guatemala time) for this virtual event where our panel of experts will present findings and recommendations emphasizing issues related to international financing, free trade, and international sanctions.
Please note that the event will be held in Spanish.
