Juan Guaidó’s assumption of Venezuela’s interim presidency on January 10th offered his compatriots new hope for peaceful, democratic restoration and an end to the economic and humanitarian crisis afflicting the country. Guaidó achieved the recognition of over 50 countries and rallied Venezuelans across the nation. However, Nicolás Maduro’s regime remains entrenched in Caracas and living conditions in Venezuela are growing steadily worse. Where does the Guaidó-led transition stand, and what should the international community do to help return democracy to Venezuela?
To discuss these critical questions, Florida International University and the Inter-American Dialogue are pleased to partner on “Venezuela: Transition Interrupted?” The event will feature a presentation of the new report of the Inter-American Dialogue’s Venezuela Working Group, and a panel discussion among leading hemispheric policy analysts.
