Energy policy changes are on the horizon in Latin America. In the wake of presidential elections in Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia, new governments may look to adjust the state’s role in oil production and electricity generation and address the economic impacts of rising fuel prices. Chinese investment and oil-for-loan deals have been critical to developing natural resources in many countries in the region. Meanwhile, Central American and Caribbean countries have reduced their reliance on oil imports and diversified their energy sources to include more renewables and natural gas from the United States. Yet, access to clean, affordable and reliable energy remains a challenge.

Will Latin American governments succeed in enacting policies to increase oil production and keep fuel subsidies in check? What is the outlook for natural gas markets and trade in the region? What are the prospects for expanding electricity infrastructure and integrating more renewable energy into the grid? Will China continue to increase lending and investment in Latin American energy sectors?

The Second Annual Latin America Energy Conference will convene Latin American and US government officials, corporate executives, and international and non-governmental organizations to discuss the most critical energy policy issues facing the region.
