The Inter-American human rights system is widely recognized as one of the most valuable parts of the Organization of American States. The system, however, faces great challenges. In recent years, both the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights have been the subject of vigorous debate, reflecting changes in the political landscape and increasing demands on the system. The forum will focus on possible reforms to make the system more effective in defending human rights and advancing democratic principles throughout the Americas.
