The Inter-American Dialogue’s Brazil Program is pleased to invite you to a discussion on policymaking in Brazil, co-hosted with the Latin America and the Caribbean Policy Association (LAPA), the Brazilian Affairs Graduate Student Association (BrasGrad), and the Brazilian Law Association at Georgetown (BrazLA). The event will feature Brazilian Congresswoman Tabata Amaral and will be moderated by Bruna Santos, Director of the Brazil Program at the Inter-American Dialogue.
Understanding Brazil without understanding Congress leads to a distorted picture of how power actually works. Tabata Amaral is one of the most visible voices in Brazilian politics today. Rising through her work in education and later in Congress, she represents a new generation of leaders who do not fit easily into Brazil’s traditional political categories. Her trajectory offers a valuable lens into how policymaking functions in Brazil today.
This conversation will explore the realities of legislating in Brazil today, including the relationship between Congress and other institutions, as well as key issues such as the outlook for the presidential elections, digital governance, and public security.
Join us on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET for this timely event.
