In June 2023, in the framework of the 53rd General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), several OAS member countries adopted the Declaration for the Protection and Integration of Migrant and Refugee Children and Adolescents in the Americas.
With the objective of disseminating and promoting the Declaration, the Inter-American Dialogue hosts this online event on August 31 from 12 PM – 1 PM EDT. The online event seeks to deepen the relevance of this Declaration. In addition, the conversation aims at discussing the agreements and commitments achieved, as well as to unravel what are the challenges that lie ahead.
The event will open with remarks from Rebecca Bill Chavez, President and CEO of the Inter-American Dialogue, followed by the participation of Sebastián Kraljevich, Ambassador of Chile to the OAS, Sandra Mikan, Representative of Colombia to the OAS, Pablo Ceriani, Migration Expert and Member of the United Nations Committee for the Protection of the Rights of Migrants and their Families, and Álvaro Botero, Migration Expert, and Senior Fellow of the Inter-American Dialogue. Also, a migrant adolescent from Venezuela will share her reactions to the Declaration.
