Event information

Nine years after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared “LGBT rights are human rights,” the US continues to lag behind other democratic countries in placing LGBTQ equality at the core of its foreign policy. Sexual and reproductive rights and LGBTQ equality have increasingly become an international ideological battleground, with the United States sending mixed messages, at best. Join foreign policy experts as we discuss the current state of US foreign policy as it relates to LGBTQ equality and the degree to which the US should make equality a centerpiece of its global strategy.

The Inter-American Dialogue and the LGBTQ Victory Institute are pleased to host this timely breakout session as part of the International LGBTQ Leaders Conference. The three-day conference is the largest gathering of LGBTQ elected and appointed officials anywhere in the world and has attracted nearly 600 participants annually. Hundreds of current and former public officials from the United States and abroad will be joined by executives from the corporate and nonprofit sectors as well as LGBTQ community leaders to hear from an array of thought leaders, content experts, and champions for equality.

Follow the conference on Twitter at #LGBTQLeaders20, @VictoryInst, and @The_Dialogue.
