The Inter-American Dialogue’s Asia & Latin America Program and Chile’s Millennium Nucleus on the Impacts of China in Latin America and the Caribbean (ICLAC) are pleased to formally launch the Regional Repository of Chinese Investments in Latin America, an online tool developed over many months by ICLAC affiliates and a team of partners and researchers across the hemisphere.
The Repository, which includes a map and searchable data, attempts a granular and continuously updated account of confirmed Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) in Latin America. Focused so far on top recipients of Chinese FDI in South America, the tool draws on the unmatched expertise of partner institutions in the region to produce up-to-date, georeferenced data on Chinese FDI. In addition to its compilation of in-depth FDI data, the Regional Repository is also a collection of high-quality, academic, and multilingual case studies on individual Chinese FDI projects.
Join us on March 25, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00AM EDT, to hear from ICLAC Director Francisco Urdinez and Inter-American Dialogue Senior Advisor Margaret Myers as they demonstrate Repository functions and share key insights from building the Repository and tracking Chinese investment across the region. What trends are evident in Chinese economic engagement in South America? Which companies are leading the drive? And what do the current trends mean for Latin American development?
