Event information

As 2025 begins, the world is now just five years away from 2030—a milestone year set by many governments, international organizations, private companies, and NGOs as a target for achieving significant reductions in carbon emissions. What has become clear as the world pushes to achieve its goals is the numerous technologies, resources, regulatory strategies, and social concerns that are central to a successful energy transition—and thereby a successful reduction in carbon emissions.

What are these sector-spanning components of the energy transition, and how do they fit together in a broader global strategy? Given the rapid rise of new technologies and increased demand for new resources, what sorts of legal and regulatory infrastructure are needed to maximize their potential? What social concerns must governments and private actors consider? Most importantly, how might all these things change over the next five years?

Join the Inter-American Dialogue’s Energy Transition and Climate Program on February 4 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM EST as invited specialists delve into the disparate aspects of the energy transition, analyzing green hydrogen, offshore wind, critical minerals, sustainable mobility, smart grids, energy integration, and the aspects of a just transition.

Experts will share their unique expertise in a single event that unites perspectives from different areas of the energy transition, aiming to identify commonalities and synergies. Panelists will share insights about the present and future of the energy transition, especially as the world progresses towards 2030.
