Historically speaking, China’s climate assistance to the Caribbean has differed in notable ways from that of other donors. In general, China’s assistance is more ad hoc, less focused on capacity building, supportive of the exportation of green energy and other equipment, and/or made up of mostly one-off donations, often in the wake weather-related disasters.
In this online event, panelists will share key observations from a new study on China’s climate assistance to the Caribbean, including trends Chinese climate-related activity, its alignment with the region’s climate-related interests, and prospects for future Chinese engagement, amid a decline in U.S. climate-related outreach.
Join the Inter-American Dialogue’s Asia and Latin America Program and the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI) on July 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM EDT for expert discussion of Chinese climate assistance in the Caribbean.
