Event information

Sworn in as National Assembly leader in January 2019 and recognized as Venezuela’s interim president by the United States soon thereafter, Juan Guaidó is the face of the opposition to Nicolás Maduro. Guaidó’s efforts to restore democracy in Venezuela inspired wide support at home and abroad, but Maduro remains entrenched in Caracas as Venezuelans confront an ongoing humanitarian emergency exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Maduro’s durability and the failed Operation Gideon have now raised growing questions about the opposition’s strategy and Guaidó’s own future.

To discuss the institutional and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, the state of the democratic opposition, and the challenging road ahead, former President of Costa Rica Laura Chinchilla, co-chair of the Dialogue’s board of directors, will host a wide-ranging conversation with Juan Guaidó.
