Join us for a conversation with Latin American youth leaders about civic and political participation during times of democratic backsliding. For 75 years, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the American Declaration on the Rights and Duties of Man have played a significant role in promoting and protecting human rights worldwide. Youth, through student organizations, street protests, public opinion, or social media, have spearheaded the protection of these rights and the advancement of democratic reforms. In partnership with the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Dialogue will host youth leaders from across the region to discuss the future of youth engagement for democracy and human rights in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In celebration of Human Rights Day, join us at the Inter-American Dialogue on December 6, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM EST for a conversation with Latin American youth leaders. How do young leaders describe their current political challenges? How do they see youth as agents for change for democracy and human rights, and what role do technology and social media play? How can the OAS and regional institutions better engage youth in averting democratic crises and addressing issues of priority to young people? How can the OAS’ renewed focus on use of the Inter-American Democratic Charter serve as a vehicle for reinforcing democratic institutions and respect for human rights and greater inclusion?

Please note that this event will be held in Spanish.
