The Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to invite you to join us for a presentation of findings from “A New Phase in Japan-Latin America and the Caribbean Relations,” a new report by the Dialogue and the Japan Association of Latin America and the Caribbean (JALAC).
Japan’s longstanding ties to Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) set it apart from other East Asian nations. Japan has recently embarked on a new phase in its relations with Latin America. Tokyo is seeking even stronger ties, or a “vigorous march forward” in the region, as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe highlighted in a 2014 speech in São Paulo. What should we expect in terms of Japanese trade and investment in LAC in the coming years? What are the prospects for enhanced Japanese engagement with the region as growth slows on both sides of the Pacific?
