The Inter-American Dialogue is pleased to invite you to join us for the release of our newest findings on Chinese development bank finance in Latin America. These findings are the product of collaboration between the Dialogue’s China and Latin America Program and Boston University’s Global Economic Governance Initiative (GEGI). They will also be made available in the online China-Latin America Finance Database, which documents China’s bilateral lending to the region from 2005 to the present.

Our 2015 data indicates that despite slowing economic growth in China, the country’s policy banks remain a primary source of finance for certain Latin American nations. Multi-billion dollar loans for infrastructure, energy, and other projects are still being funneled to some of the region’s most fragile economies. With billions more promised by the end of the decade, what does Chinese finance mean for the region? Are Chinese loans facilitating regional development?
