Central American and Caribbean countries are facing acute energy challenges, with among the highest electricity costs in the world and heavy reliance on oil-fired power generation. Deepening regional energy integration and promoting the use of alternative electricity sources, such as renewable energy and natural gas, are key to lowering electricity costs and improving access to secure, cleaner energy supplies. However, the inability to access finance and attract private sector investment poses significant barriers. This Inter-American Dialogue forum will bring together leaders from government, business and multilateral organizations to discuss ways to address these energy challenges in Central America and the Caribbean.
