Earlier this month, Mexico held midterm elections for members of the Chamber of Deputies as well as local and state-level officials. This was the first electoral process overseen by the newly created INE, which officially replaced the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE) in 2014 as part of the current administration’s electoral reform. Like the IFE, the INE is an autonomous institution that organizes Mexico’s federal elections and collaborates closely with state-level electoral institutes in the coordination of local elections.
