Security and Stability in Central America
The President of Panama since 2014, Juan Carlos Varela has led his country through a period marked by strong economic growth relative to other countries in Latin America, as well as focus on poverty reduction, concerns about corruption and transparency, and increased participation in regional security efforts. A businessman and entrepreneur, Varela previously served as Panama’s Vice President and Minister of Foreign Relations.
The Dialogue is pleased to welcome President Varela for a wide-ranging open discussion focusing on Panama’s role in the region, his government’s foreign policy agenda, and changing security and anti-narcotics efforts in Central America.
