The Inter-American Dialogue’s 2026 Leadership for the Americas Awards Gala will take place on October 22, 2026, at the Organization of American States in Washington, DC. The evening will bring together senior leaders and decision-makers from across the Americas to engage with those shaping policy, diplomacy, markets, and institutions in the region.
At a moment when complex challenges demand sustained leadership and regional cooperation, the Gala recognizes individuals and organizations advancing practical solutions and strengthening collaboration among government, business, and civil society.

Dr. Abraham F. Lowenthal is a scholar, teacher, institution-builder and policy advisor. He has dedicated his professional life to strengthening hemispheric cooperation in the Americas. Dr. Lowenthal played an irreplaceable role in establishing the Inter-American Dialogue. As a testament to his commitment to the region, he also established and directed the Wilson Center’s Latin American Program and the Pacific Council on International Policy. Further, he served as director of studies at the Council on Foreign Relations; senior fellow at the Brookings Institution; and as a Representative, program advisor, and consultant with the Ford Foundation. He has been decorated by the presidents of Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Peru and by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Lowenthal will be acknowledged for his invaluable leadership as part of the Dialogue’s Enduring Voices recognition.

Dr. Rebecca Bill Chavez has served as president and CEO of the Inter-American Dialogue since 2022. She has over 30 years of experience in academia, policymaking, and government service, including serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Western Hemisphere Affairs. Prior to government service Dr. Chavez was a tenured professor of political science at the United States Naval Academy. Her research focused on democracy, the rule of law, and security. She is a member of the Leadership Council for Women in National Security Steering Committee, the Princeton University Institute for Regional and International Studies Advisory Board, the Center for Media Integrity in the Americas Board, and the Council on Foreign Relations. She is the recipient of multiple academic grants, including a Fulbright Scholarship.
