Francisco Jose Lloreda, former minister of state and president of the Colombian Petroleum Association: “Colombia faces an energy paradox. It has natural gas but still a domestic supply shortage is expected. According to Ecopetrol, the country will run short of gas between 2025 and 2030. Since 2017, its proven reserves have declined. The striking fact is that the country has had options. Colombia relied for decades on gas from shallow waters in northern Guajira and since the 1990s from associated gas in the eastern plains. But both sources are declining, leaving the country with four options…”
