      Effective schools in poor areas

We are pleased to share with you Education Synopsis number 15, which summarizes the key findings of a study about the factors that make schools in poor areas raise the achievement of their students. This study was published by Dagmar Raczynski y Gonzalo Muñoz as a chapter in PREAL’s book Educación y Brechas de Equidad en América Latina (Vol. II).

The authors find that effective schools in poor areas set high standards for their students, organize their work around the core goal of improving student learning, have teachers who deliver quality instruction, foster a positive school environment, and promote parental participation in various ways.
