Brazil launches first Education Report Card

We are pleased to share with you Brazil’s first report card on education, Saindo da inércia? (Overcoming inertia?), produced by the Lemann Foundation in collaboration with PREAL. The report analyzes the current state of education in Brazil in terms of its coverage, quality, and equityIt concludes that, despite steady increases in enrollment and investment, students are not acquiring the competencies needed to excel in a global economy. In 2007, the Brazilian population just had seven years of schooling on average, and the country’s performance on international assessments ranks among the lowest. Such low levels of education will almost certainly make it more difficult for Brazil to support its growing economy, currently the eight largest in the world.
