      Teacher Training’s Low Grade

A recent study published by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) concludes that teacher training programs in the United States do a poor job of preparing graduates to provide quality primary and secondary education.

Some 1,200 programs and 600 institutions participated in the study, which evaluated teacher training based on student-teaching requirements, course syllabi, and selectivity of the programs.

In response to the study, some education officials argued that NCTQ’s methodology and evaluation criteria do not sufficiently evaluate how well teachers actually perform on the job after graduation.
