A recent report by EDUCA discusses illiteracy in the Dominican Republic and the experience of an EDUCA program in reducing it. The document points out that, although illiteracy has declined significantly, some 900,000 Dominicans remain illiterate, many of them under the age of 30.
It challenges four myths about eradicating illiteracy: that it is slow and expensive, benefits solely the elderly, has low returns, and can only achieve short-lived success.
