We are pleased to share with you PREAL’s most recent Policy Audit, an analysis of Chile’s Preferential School Subsidy Program (SEP).

In effect since 2008, the SEP strives to address chronic inequalities in the school system by providing additional funding to schools that serve the poor—in return for a commitment to raise student test scores. Because the policy is relatively new, conclusive tests on its impact are not yet available. The Policy Audit describes the operational and political foundations of the SEP and draws lessons from the Chilean experience that may be useful for policymakers in other countries.
