On December 12, 2018, the Inter-American Dialogue hosted a special reception to celebrate our outgoing co-chairs, Ambassador Carla A. Hills and President Ernesto Zedillo.
We are proud that Carla Hills has been a Dialogue member for 24 years, served on the Board for 21 of those productive years, and as co-chair for 12. Likewise, we have been honored to have Ernesto Zedillo serving as a Dialogue member for 15 years, on the Board for nine, and as co-chair for five. Under their leadership, the Dialogue grew its membership from 100 to 123; women’s representation increased by 6 percent; Latin American and Caribbean representation grew from under half to over two-thirds; and we expanded our program to include work on Asia’s activities in the region and on energy and climate change.
The reception featured special remarks by Michael Shifter. Dialogue Board member Arturo Sarukhan shared written remarks from Ernesto Zedillo, Tom Shannon conveyed a message from incoming co-chair Laura Chinchilla, and Mack McLarty read written remarks from chair emeritus Ricardo Lagos.
The new co-chairs of the Dialogue will begin their tenure in January 2019.
