On March 25, the Inter-American Dialogue’s Mexico Program released The Chemical Industry & North American Competitiveness: Toward the 2026 USMCA Review Infographics, as part of the U.S.–Mexico Roadshow, an engagement strategy designed to strengthen U.S.–Mexico ties where the relationship is most tangible—at the state, city, and industry level. As debates over trade, security, and competitiveness intensify ahead of the 2026 USMCA review, the Roadshow convenes private-sector and expert voices to advance a forward-looking case for deeper cooperation, shared investment, and more integrated supply chains. In that context, the inaugural Houston convening spotlighted the strategic importance of U.S.–Mexico petrochemical value chains and their impact on jobs, investment, and downstream manufacturing on both sides of the border.
This infographic is the second installment in a series of two and examines the depth of cross-border integration in the North American chemical industry, underscoring how the sector operates through highly interconnected value chains in which the United States supplies critical inputs, such as natural gas, while Mexico processes and manufactures downstream products.
