Strengthening North America: A Series of Infographics – 3. The Interdependence of the Agribusiness Markets in North America

On December 1, 2025, the Inter-American Dialogue’s Mexico Program released Strengthening North America: A Series of Infographics, developed in partnership with México, ¿cómo vamos? This new initiative draws on original analysis and projections from The North American Project, a research effort led by México, ¿cómo vamos? and the US-Mexico Foundation, which examines how Mexico, the United States, and Canada are working to shape a more prosperous and competitive regional future.

The research highlights the need for the three countries to build on the experience accumulated since NAFTA and embrace a far more ambitious joint agenda—one that extends well beyond trade. Advancing shared goals for economic growth, social development, and technological innovation will require deeper trade and investment ties, alignment of production and labor standards, and strengthened regulatory cooperation. These steps are essential for securing North America’s supply chains, accelerating innovation, and positioning the region as a global benchmark for resilience and competitiveness.

Together with México, ¿cómo vamos?, the Mexico Program produced three infographics that translate these findings into accessible visual analyses.

This publication presents the third installment in the series, focusing on U.S. agricultural interdependence and food supply security within North America. The agribusiness ties among the United States, Mexico, and Canada are deeply integrated, with both partners serving as the country’s primary suppliers and most reliable markets. This regional complementarity ensures steady, year-round availability of key products, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, while supporting employment and economic activity across the U.S. agricultural sector. Within this context, the USMCA strengthens North America’s role as a resilient and competitive agricultural hub, reducing external vulnerabilities and reinforcing the stability of the region’s food supply.
