Bruna Santos, director of the Brazil Program at the Inter-American Dialogue, was featured in an interview with Exame, one of Brazil’s leading magazines, discussing the current state of Brazil–U.S. relations and the role of the Brazil Program.
She underscored that there is “no short-term solution” to the current political impasse, given that President Trump’s demands are “in practice, unfeasible” and have left Brazil with little room to maneuver. In this context, Santos highlighted the critical importance of the private sector in sustaining dialogue with U.S. counterparts, ensuring that facts about the trade relationship circulate and helping to prevent an economic decoupling.
At the same time, she emphasized that the crisis should be treated as an opportunity to confront systemic challenges: the risks of fragmented global supply chains, the dangers of further economic closure, and the need for countries outside the U.S.–China dispute to build bridges and provide regulatory pluralism.
According to Santos, the Brazil Program is the only public policy initiative in Washington fully dedicated to Brazil. Its mission is to bring independent research, sustained dialogue, and policy engagement to the forefront, elevating Brazil’s presence in the American capital and transforming conversations into impact.
