    During the last decadem Atlantico y Barranquilla have made efforts to ensure that all children and youth from the state receive education. Between 1993 and 2003 enrollment increased by 174 thousands students and the coverage in preschool also increased. Reprobation decreased and in 2003 it was only half compared to that of the rest of country. The average years of education increased (from 7,3 to 8,6) and illiteracy decreased, so that in both cases the situatiion of the state is better than the country.
