Orozco: “Toda vez que se empiecen a reducir las remesas, la intención a migrar crece”

El director del programa de Migración, Remesas y Desarrollo del Diálogo Interamericano, Manuel Orozco, habló con DW News el 18 de julio, 2026.

COMENTARIOS DE OROZCO: 

“Sí, hay una contradicción en el sentido que hay correlación negativa…entre el volumen de remesas y la intención a migrar. Entre más remesas recibe uno, mayor capacidad de ahorrar tiene uno para invertir en la economía local, y no migrar. Toda vez que se empiecen a reducir las remesas, la intención a migrar crece. De hecho, si comparamos el 2024 con el 2026, la intención de migrar no ha cambiado: es alrededor del 15 por ciento de los hogares que quiere emigrar.”

“El factor importante de todo esto es el poder adquisitivo. Las remesas lo que hacen es aumentar el consumo privado para Centroamérica, en donde los estados tienen poca capacidad de inversión en la población…las remesas capturan el 35-40 por ciento del consumo privado, y eso es básicamente para la vida cotidiana. Además, aumentan la capacidad de ahorro.”

“Creo que el próximo año, sí es probable que se observe una tendencia migratoria a pesar de las políticas anti inmigratorias que existen en la frontera.”
