On January 30, 2025, the Dialogue’s Rule of Law Program and International IDEA released a joint policy brief outlining a roadmap for the private sector to take a proactive role in addressing the challenges posed by illicit money in politics, promoting transparency and democracy across Latin America and the Caribbean.
A thriving economy relies on the rule of law, strong institutions, equality, and predictability. The private sector plays a crucial role in strengthening political financing frameworks to reduce opacity and promote transparency, economic stability, and security. To drive progress, it must lead inclusive dialogues with policymakers, civil society, academia, and media, while fostering spaces for research and public debate.
The report outlines key actions for the private sector, including:
- Promoting dialogue and awareness on the link between money and politics.
- Strengthening enforcement capacity and addressing regulatory gaps.
- Ensuring transparency, fairness, and effective implementation of rules.
- Empowering stakeholders through training and mobilizing public opinion.
