On Friday, May 5th, the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL), the Due Process of Law Foundation (DPLF), the Open Society Justice Initiative, and the Inter-American Dialogue hosted an open forum with the six candidates nominated by the member states to serve on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
In this forum, the candidates presented their vision for the commission and engaged directly with participants about the main challenges relating to human rights in the Americas, civil society participation, and the future of the Inter-American System among other topics. All of the candidates answered questions from the moderators, the audience, and remote participants via Twitter. Of the six candidates, three will be elected by the OAS member states at the forthcoming general assembly in Mexico City in June.
In addition, candidates were given the opportunity to submit written responses to all submitted questions. Those questions and responses can be found here.
