A Conversation with Alejandro Toledo

President Toledo shared his thoughts about Latin America’s transformation over the past two decades and the main development and political challenges confronting the region in coming years. He set forth an ambitious agenda for greater equity, sustainability and prosperity, as reflected in his recently published book, The Shared Society: A Vision for the Global Future of Latin America (Stanford University Press).

Toledo was president of Peru from 2001 to 2006. He now serves as the President of the Global Center for Development and Democracy in Washington, D.C. He received his Ph. D. in Economics from Stanford University and has been Distinguished Visiting Scholar at Johns Hopkins-SAIS and Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Sergio Bitar, one of Chile’s leading political figures who served as minister and senator and is now senior fellow at the Dialogue, offered commentary.
