What’s Driving Lithium’s Boom in Argentina?

  • Rio Tinto Group announced March 11 that it has secured $1.2 billion in financing for construction of the Rincón lithium project in Argentina’s Salta province, which aims to become the country’s largest operational lithium mine after its scheduled opening date in 2028. Argentina is the fifth-largest producer of lithium in the world; the country saw its commercial-grade production double between 2024 and 2025, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey.
