What’s Behind Canada’s Dispute With Stellantis?

  • Canada’s government has opened dispute-resolution proceedings against automaker Stellantis over the company’s decision last month to move production of its Jeep Compass model from Ontario to Illinois, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly told legislators on Nov. 3. Joly accused Stellantis of breaking a “legally binding” commitment to keep production of the brand at its Brampton, Ontario facility, which employs 3,000 people. What is the significance of the Canadian government’s legal challenge against Stellantis, and how likely is it to succeed?
