Riyad Insanally, former ambassador of Guyana to the United States and fellow at the Caribbean Policy Consortium: ““President Ali and the PPP/C have been re-elected with a resounding mandate to continue with their ambitious development plans for the country. At the time of writing, the PPP/C was expected to command a seven-seat majority in parliament. In the end, the race wasn’t as tight as some were predicting. Critically, the main opposition parties, APNU and the AFC, handicapped themselves by failing to put together a viable coalition to form a united front in the elections. Surprisingly, political newcomer Azruddin Mohamed was able to use his personal wealth to win considerable support for his three-month-old WIN party…”
